The now 34-year-old left Liverpool for Fenerbahce in 2012 as Rafa Benitez’s famous team was slowly dismantled.
“To get the call was very exciting because I’ve never been back and it will be very special just to go back to Liverpool, to see the people, to go back to Melwood and say ‘hello’ to everyone” said the Dutchman.
“[It will be] rekindling memories I will never forget. I know a lot has changed since I’ve been gone and there’s almost no-one left there anymore [from the squad I played with], but when I got the phone call about the game, it was a bit emotional”.
Kuyt was signed by Benitez in the summer 2006 and went on to net 71 goals in 286 games for the club.
The charity match will take place four years to the day after he bagged a hat-trick against Man United in what was arguably his best ever performance in a red shirt.
