Arsenal’s Chilean international Alexis Sanchez scored his side’s third in an eight minute triple salvo at the Emirates Stadium, making the score 3-0 to the Gunners on the stroke of half-time.
A curled finish from Hector Bellerin and a beautiful free-kick had already put the north London side two goals to the good before Sanchez came up with the goods, narrowly before the end of the half, leaving Liverpool shell-shocked.
A loss for the Anfield club would surely put them out of contention to retain their Champions League place for next season, following a disappointing defeat at home to bitter rivals Manchester United in their last outing.
A win for Arsenal, on the other hand, would put them into second place, possibly temporarily, before Manchester City play away against Crystal Palace on Monday night. Three points would also leave the Gunners four points behind league leaders Chelsea, though the Blues will have played two games less.
