Thomas Hennecke, a journalist for German sports magazine Kicker, has claimed that Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels is considering his options at the club.
The World Cup winner has also been given an improved contract offer by the Bundesliga side according to Hennecke. This could give the German pause for thought when looking at the options he has available.
This comes during a time in which there are various reports linking Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal to a move for the 26-year-old. The Daily Star and the Daily Express are two papers which have carried such articles. The latter has even quoted the player as saying he will trust his gut when deciding whether to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Hummels played in BVB’s 0-1 defeat to Bayern Munich on Saturday, and performed well despite his team losing. The side were cruelly defeated by their rivals due to a goal from former Dortmund hero Robert Lewandowski.
Here are Hennecke’s thoughts (in German), they translate as “Hummels considering options. Dortmund have offered him a new contract with increased wages. Now his choice is: extend deal or goodbye?”
Mats Hummels überlegt. Und der BVB bietet ihm einen neuen Vertrag an – mit höherem Gehalt. Jetzt heißt es: verlängern oder verabschieden?
