SC Bastia’s dreadful week continued with a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Stade de Reims.
The Corisicans were trounced 4-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Coupe de la Ligue final and then capitulated 2-0 to Olympique Lyonnais in the league.
These defeats came on the back of a loss to Montpellier Herault Sport Club in the league, and it was imperative that Bastia stopped the rot upon their return to their home ground, the Stade Furiani.
Unfortunately for the 15,452 Sporting fans in attendance, the team were unable to halt their slide towards the division’s relegation zone.
They started badly, when Reims forward David N’Gog opened the scoring on five minutes, and conceded a second just before the break when Algeria right-back Aissa Mandi beat Alphonse Areola.
The home side pulled one back immediately after the pause through Ivorian Giovanni Sio, but the crowd’s exhorts weren’t enough to inspire them to victory.
Victory puts Reims in 14th, three off the drop, while Bastia remain in 16th, only two clear of 18th-place Lorient.
