The Premier League champions, who look set to lose their crown to Chelsea by the end of this season, look in need of improvement in a number of key areas after a difficult season, with manager Manuel Pellegrini seemingly not content with the likes of Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov in that part of the pitch.

Alba has shown himself to be one of the best left-backs in world football in recent years, impressing since joining Barcelona from Valencia in 2012 and being a regular for the Spanish national team.

The 26-year-old could suit City’s style of play well, and according to the Metro, the club may be prepared to pay big money to lure him away from the Nou Camp, though that could end up costing as much as £64m due to a clause in his contract.
