Arsenal have suffered a transfer setback after Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas poured cold water on talk of a summer switch to the Emirates Stadium.
The Spain international had been strongly linked with the Gunners earlier in the week in the Metro, but fans who got their hopes up may have to curb their enthusiasm following the 33-year-old’s response.
The Daily Star reports that Casillas, who has two years remaining on his current contract at the Bernabeu, told El Chiringuito: “Where am I going to be better off than here?”
Arsenal could bring in a goalkeeper this summer regardless of whether Casillas arrives in north London or someone else.
Former number one choice Wojciech Sczcesny has fallen out of favour under boss Arsene Wenger and has had to settle for a place on the substitutes’ bench for the most part since the arrival of David Ospina.
Wenger could yet feel a more established, high-profile figure is required between the posts when he puts together his plans for the summer transfer window.
