Liverpool are supposedly moving closer to sealing the signing of highly-rated young Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic for the summer transfer window as they seek to replace departing club captain Steven Gerrard.
The Reds urgently need reinforcements in the middle of the park as the former England international approaches the end of his long Anfield career, with Kovacic identified by manager Brendan Rodgers as an ideal long-term replacement in that position.
Kovacic has impressed in Serie A so far, looking one of the most promising young midfielders in Europe, and could be closing in on a move to Merseyside for a bargain £17.7m.
According to the Metro, Liverpool look set to fight off interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea for the Croatian international’s signature in what could prove to be a great move.
Inter are seemingly happy to let the 20-year-old leave the San Siro this summer as they themselves grow in confidence in signing Manchester City’s Yaya Toure.
