Reports from Spain claim that Chelsea are on the brink of signing Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann, as super-agent Jorges Mendes has been brought in to help Jose Mourinho land his man in the summer transfer window.

With the Premier League title wrapped up for Mourinho, the Portuguese manager is now looking to bolster his Blues team to ensure they remain champions next season, and Griezmann is apparently a leading name on his wish-list.

According to online Spanish media outlet El Confidential, the involvement of Jorge Mendes in the negotiations could be decisive in the Rojiblancos forward swapping the Estadio Vicente Calderón for Stamford Bridge in the summer.

The report claims that Chelsea left-back Filipe Luis is keen on a return to Diego Simeone’s Atletico and could therefore be included in any deal as a possible makeweight.

With Didier Drogba’s one-year contract set to expire in June and Loic Remy perhaps not the quality desired to compete with Diego Costa up front, Mourinho is eyeing a deal for the exciting Frenchman.

The Metro state that Griezmann has a release-clause of £43m – and the Spanish outfit will accept no less for the in-form attacker.

The 24-year-old has scored 25 goals in all competitions – including 22 in La Liga – and could be set to follow in the footsteps of former Atletico star Diego Costa.
