Arsenal are set to pocket £2.8 million if Barcelona win the Champions League as part of Thomas Vermaelen’s transfer, reports the Daily Express.
The Catalan club bought the centre-back for just £7.2 million last summer, but that figure could rise thanks to several performance-related bonuses. This is despite the Belgian not playing a single game this season because of a series of injuries.
Barca are currently on course to win a sensational treble in manager Luis Enrique’s first season in charge, which could lead to this financial boost for the North London club. They are in the finals of the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, and need just one win from their final two La Liga matches to win the division.
This money isn’t enough to help Arsenal massively but it won’t hurt with the possible expenditures on new signings coming up in the next transfer window. With Arsene Wenger looking likely to spend big in the same way he did on Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil they will want all the cash they can get.
