After almost an entire season of being backed to make the switch to Liverpool when he becomes a free agent in the summer, Burnley striker Danny Ings could sensationally snub the Reds in favour of a move to Premier League strugglers Newcastle United.

The Newcastle Chronicle claim that the Magpies are favourites to land the in-demand England under-21 international when his contract expires, but the transfer hinges on the Toon’s clash with West Ham United on Sunday.

The 23-year-old will only consider swapping Turf Moor for St James’ Park if John Carver’s side avoid relegation – and they will be after no less than three points to be certain that doesn’t happen – which Ings will be keeping a close eye on.

Liverpool have been mooted as the most likely destination for Ings, and Manchester United have also been rumoured to be interested, but the lure of regular first-team football at Newcastle could sway his mind against a move to Anfield or Old Trafford.

According to the report, the forward is yet to make his mind up on where his future lies – and will only come to a decision when the Premier League season ends.

A source close to the player insists that his thoughts over his next club are based solely on football – not on which club is offering the highest wages.
