Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stated his belief that his signing of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona last summer is the best piece of business the club have done since they bought Thierry Henry from Juventus all the way back in 1999.

The Chilean international has had a tremendous first season at the Emirates Stadium, scoring 22 goals in all competitions to establish himself as the star of this side.

The 26-year-old plays with a swagger reminiscent of the legendary Henry, who is the club’s all-time leading scorer, and Wenger admitted there is a comparison to be made between the two.

The French tactician is also quoted as saying in the Daily Express that he believes Sanchez is the best signing he’s made since he landed Henry nearly sixteen years ago.

Asked about the comparison, the Gunners boss said: “Yes, he’s the closest maybe.

“He has similar movement and he’s a killer as well.

“He wants to always play and to always win. He’s highly focused and motivated.”

These are strong words by Wenger, who also signed big names like Robert Pires, Sol Campbell, Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie since then.
