Mirror Online cite reports from Portugal that have revealed Gaitan’s representatives Jorge Mendes and Luis Filipe Vieira met with an unnamed English club during the week in order to discuss a possible transfer this summer.

The Argentine has long been linked with a move to England and rumours in the Metro on Friday night hinted that Barclays Premier League champions Chelsea are also in the race to sign the winger, who has a reported release clause of £24.8million.

Gaitan celebrated a second successive Portuguese league title last weekend and has scored four goals in 26 apperances en route to their success but it appears he won’t be around next season as Benfica look to make it three in a row.
