Manchester United are close to beating Arsenal to the signing of French international midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, according to reports on social media.
French Twitter account InfoSport+ broke the news on Sunday evening with a tweet that claimed United are in pole position to land the 25-year-old from Premier League rivals Southampton.

The news will come as a bitter blow for the Gunners as they have been tipped to sign Schneiderlin for the best part of a year, and were thought to be favourites to land the midfielder this summer after his comments last week.
Mail Sport reported that the Saints star said he would only leave St Mary’s in the summer for a club playing in the Champions League and that appeared to rule out a switch to Tottenham in favour of the 2015 FA Cup winners.
However, it would seem that a move to Old Trafford is at an advanced stage and this deal will likely end their interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who has reportedly opened talks with Barcelona and Bayern Munich (via Mail Sport).
Schneiderlin was in brilliant form for the Saints this season as he played extremely well in his 26 league appearances and helped the club to a seventh placed finish and a Europa League spot.
