Liverpool’s transfer plans for the summer could be dealt a major blow as Barcelona ready a move to sign Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
The Catalan giants are ready to join the Reds in the chase for the Croatian international, who is widely regarded as one of the most promising young playmakers in Serie A.
Liverpool have long looked the favourites to sign Kovacic from Inter, but it now looks as though Barca could hijack the move as they look for new signings in the middle of the park after the exit of club legend Xavi at the end of last season.
According to the Daily Star, Kovacic has become one of their top targets, which could leave Liverpool to look elsewhere as they seek to replace a club legend of their own in Steven Gerrard.
