The England Women’s team has provided the country with the belief that they can go on to become world champions this summer and their achievements at the Women’s World Cup in Canada has not gone unnoticed by the legend that is David Beckham.

The Lionesses beat the tournament hosts 2-1 in the early hours of Sunday morning to advance into semi-finals and set up a clash with holders Japan on Wednesday night.

Goals from Jodi Taylor and Lucia Bronze inside the first 15 minutes of the first half had England in dreamland and despite Canada halving the deficit through Christine Sinclair three minutes before the interval, there was to be no further goals as the Lionesses held on for the win.

Their victory means English fans finally have a team to be proud of at an international tournament and raises spirits just days after the men’s U21 side crashed out of the European Championships in the Czech Republic after finishing bottom of their group.

Many have praised the Women’s team including former Three Lions captain Beckham, who posted a message on his official Instagram account.
