Arsenal have reportedly made an opening approach to sign Barcelona winger Pedro this summer, with Tomas Rosicky possibly heading out of the club after becoming a target for Sparta Prague, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Gunners are keen admirers of Pedro, who fell out of favour in Luis Enrique’s starting lineup last season due to the immense competition for places at the Nou Camp, with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar all ahead of the World Cup-winning Spaniard in the starting lineup.

Still, the 27-year-old has enjoyed a great career with the Catalan giants, playing a small part in their treble win last season, and also forming a key part of Pep Guardiola’s side that dominated Europe between 2009 and 2012.

Arsenal made a smart raid on Barcelona last summer as they brought in Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez, and his success in England may now be tempting Arsene Wenger into another similar move for Pedro, who would be a useful addition in attack.

Able to play a variety of roles, on either flank or even up front, Pedro could be an upgrade on players like Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud, adding a more consistent goal threat and a slightly more direct option for Wenger’s side.

The Telegraph mentions that Liverpool have also shown an interest in the Spanish international in the past, but it seem that the north London outfit would have the advantage in any deal this summer due to their superior financial situation.
