Manchester City are close to beating Chelsea to the signing of Turkish youngster Enes Unal this summer after the teenager arrived for a medical in Manchester on Friday, according to the Manchester Evening News.

This will see the Blues make their first signing of the summer in potentially a smart move, with the 18-year-old widely regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in his country at the moment.

Unal is known for his incredible scoring record at youth level, having netted an amazing 24 goals in 25 times for Turkey’s Under-16s, seeing him quickly move up to Under-21 level despite being younger than many of his peers.

The Bursaspor striker has also netted for his club at senior level, becoming the youngest scorer in the history of the Turkish Super Lig with a goal when he was still only 16 years old.

Although a chance in the first-team at the Etihad Stadium may still be some way away, Unal looks a great prospect for the future and one who could help City bring through a new generation of top talent after seeing many of the old guard fade in their performances last season.

With the likes of Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure no longer at their best, it’s important that Manuel Pellegrini brings in the talent to help replace them in the future, with City needing to start handing more opportunities to young players after fielding an ageing squad filled with some questionable signings on established players who haven’t really lived up to their reputations.

The Manchester Evening News claimed Chelsea were also tracking Unal, so it’s clear his potential has impressed the very best.
