Manchester United starlet James Wilson hopeful of establishing himself in the first team this season

Manchester United starlet James Wilson is aiming to make his mark on the 2015/16 campaign after enduring a injury-hit season last year.

The 19-year-old burst on to the scene with a brace on his full debut against Hull City in May 2014 and was expected to kick on under Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford last year.

However, his progression was stifled due to a number of injuries which limited him to just 13 appearances in the Barclays Premier League last season and he found the back of the net just once against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road in January.

Wilson looks to have been given the lifeline for the upcoming season as the departures of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao has left the England U20 international as one of just three recognised central strikers at the club alongside Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez.

With rumours of van Gaal hoping to bring another forward to the club before the end of the transfer window, Wilson hopes a good pre-season will be enough to catch the eye of the Dutch manager:

“I can only show the manager what I have got,” the youngster said [via Star Sport]

“He kind of knows my qualities so I have just got to go out on the pitch, show him what I can do and hopefully get that chance to play this season.”

“The manager just told me to work hard and be a team player and I tried to show him what I had and to do the best job I could out there,” Wilson added.
