Manchester City make €70m bid for top Arsenal target

Man City have made a €70m (£49m) offer for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to respected Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri.

Etihad Stadium boss Manuel Pellegrini has permanently offloaded Alvaro Negredo whilst Stevan Jovetic has joined Inter Milan and Edin Dzeko looks set to join AS Roma (via the Daily Mail), however this isn’t to say the Chilean doesn’t still have a strong attack.

Man City possess last season’s top Premier League goal-scorer, Sergio Aguero, and also have Ivory Coast powerhouse Wilfried Bony to call upon. Raheem Sterling, recently signed from Liverpool, can also fill a central striking role if needed.

Pellegrini also saw his side bag 13 goals in four pre-season fixtures and finished last term as the Premier League’s top scorers, but seemingly this hasn’t stopped the Citizens from making a move for 27-year-old French international Benzema.

Arsenal are known to be interested in Benzema (via The Daily Mail), who was a regular in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting eleven over the past two seasons.

Newly-appointed Bernabeu boss Rafa Benitez has moved to quash talk of the player’s exit by stating unequivocally that he has no intention of selling Benzema (via the Daily Mirror), although clearly this hasn’t brought an end to the speculation.

Benzema has scored 133 goals in six seasons at Real Madrid following his 2009 move to the Spanish capital.
