Emirates Stadium side continue to pursue Real Madrid star.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to make a massive €70m (£49m) bid for Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema according to Spanish source AS.

The 27-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from the Bernabeu and now Arsene Wenger looks ready to offer a club record sum for the French international.

Wenger watched his Arsenal side draw a blank against West Ham in their opening Premier League fixture of the season, this despite at one point having Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez all on the field of play.

Italian reporter Emanuele Giulianelli claims that Benzema has already been handed the number nine shirt, which is currently vacant.

The Daily Mail state that Arsenal are ready to make Benzema their highest paid player with a £150k a week deal being offered to the former Lyon man.

The Daily Express claim that Benzema is on his way into to London to undergo a medical with the Emirates Stadium side as speculation over a move reaches fever pitch.

Benzema did not take part in Real Madrid’s goalless draw with Norwegian side Valerenga on Sunday as he is said to be sidelined with a slight thigh injury.
