Breaking: Real Madrid accept Arsenal bid for £46m forward Karim Benzema

Bernabeu star finally on his way to the Emirates Stadium.

It appears that one long running summer transfer window saga is set for completion, that is if we are to believe former Man City and QPR legend Rodney Marsh.

The former forward turned pundit claimed during a radio show last night, which he appeared on alongside former Arsenal man Stewart Robson, that the Gunners have had a bid for 27-year-old French international Karim Benzema accepted.

He then confirmed this fact via his Twitter account.

Arsenal could definitely do with a fresh, prolific, goal-scoring addition to boost their attack and a move to bring in Benzema would greatly aid the North London side’s push to secure their first Premier League title in over a decade.

Benzema has scored 133 goals in six seasons in the Spanish capital and there is talk that newly appointed Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez is ready to use with Gareth Bale or Cristiano Ronaldo in a central striking role, which would leave the former Lyon man out in the cold.

Arsenal have been linked with moves to stump up as much as £46m for Benzema, a club record fee, and Arsene Wenger is known to court the La Liga star.

Though Olivier Giroud netted a superb goal against Crystal Palace on the weekend it’s fair to say the former Montpellier man, who has scored 59 goals in 137 appearances for Arsenal, is a consistent enough striking weapon for a side with title pretensions.
