Centre-back: Steve Bruce – Brucey left United to play for the likes of Birmingham City and Sheffield United, and is currently coach of Championship side Hull City.
Centre-back: Gary Pallister – Bruce’s indomitable defensive teammate, Pallister was a fantastic all-round defender and retired in 2001 after a spell with Middlesbrough. He is currently involved in the coaching academy at Boro.
Left-back: Lee Martin – The local boy progressed through the United academy, before leaving the club in 1994. He bagged the winner in the 1994 FA Cup final and currently helps unemployed youngsters in Chester.
