Everton striker and ex-Chelsea hitman Romelu Lukaku has taken to Instagram to express his regret after learning of Kobe Bryant’s impending retirement.

The basketball legend confirmed on Sunday that he would retire from the sport after the current season, having revealed that “this season is all I have left to give.”

The 37-year-old will end his career as one of the greats of the game, having won five NBA titles over a 20-year career spent exclusively in Los Angeles.

Bryant announced his retirement in the form of a poem entitled ‘Dear Basketball’, which can be read on The Players’ Tribune website.

While the sporting world communally paid tribute to Bryant following his revelation, with many praising him for his superb career and all he has given to the sport, self-confessed Lakers fan Lukaku expressed his regret at the basketball player’s decision.
