Guus Hiddink has given Ruben Loftus-Cheek the chance to start in Chelsea’s FA Cup fourth-round trip to MK Dons, and it is fair to say that Blues supporters are pretty happy about it!
Chelsea are desperate for the 20-year-old to become the first player to come through their academy and make an impact on the senior side since captain John Terry in the late 1990s.
But his first-team chances have been seriously limited. Since he made his debut under former boss Jose Mourinho in December 2014, he has made only five starts in all competitions.
Loftus-Cheek has made more frequent appearances in Hiddink’s match-day squads, and scored as a substitute in their routine 2-0 victory over Scunthorpe United in the last round.
And he has eventually been rewarded with a start at Stadium MK this afternoon – something which has pleased Chelsea fans on Twitter who think that this opportunity is long overdue.
