Manchester United to hand Jose Mourinho £300m transfer war chest

Jose Mourinho will reportedly sign a deal to become Manchester United boss in the next two weeks and will be given a £300m transfer war chest.

That’s according to The Daily Star, who have suggested that an announcement will come in the next fortnight despite the fact that the club had hoped to wait until the end of the season.

Following a leak in the Portuguese media that the tactician had signed the deal, United have reportedly decided that it is pointless to wait longer than necessary.

It is also suggested in the report that the Old Trafford hierarchy have promised the former Chelsea boss a war chest of up to £300m to rebuild the team.

Naturally, that will in turn lead to speculation linking various top names from around Europe with a move to the club, although it remains to be seen firstly if Mourinho does indeed arrive, and which players he will target to lead his revolution.

United’s more immediate priority will be ending this season in strong fashion, as they will hope to defeat Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final next month while also trying to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League in order to qualify for the Champions League next season.

That could also be instrumental in how much Mourinho is given, as United will naturally feel the financial hit if they were to miss out on a seat at Europe’s top table.

Nevertheless, the latest reports will come as another blow to Louis van Gaal who would have arguably hoped that silverware would have been enough to earn him another year in the Old Trafford hotseat.

However, given Mourinho’s track record of winning at every club he has been at, coupled with the necessity to combat Manchester City’s appointment of Pep Guardiola as they threaten to become the top club in the city, the Red Devils have their answer ready and that is expected to be the arrival of the ‘Special One’.
