Manchester United transfer news: Mourinho completes another signing

Posted by

Jose Mourinho has made another signing at Manchester United, adding Ricardo Formosinho to his backroom staff.

The Sun were one of various sources to report that the 59-year-old has joined the Red Devils as Mourinho’s technical scout.

The Portuguese coach—who was officially unveiled as United manager less than a week after United won the FA Cup and dismissed Dutch boss Louis van Gaal—has signed his compatriot having previously worked with him at various outpoints.

Mourinho and Formosinho spent time together at FC Porto over 10 years ago, masterminding the Portuguese giants’ Champions League victory together, before working together at Real Madrid during a less happy period for the ex-Chelsea boss.

The 53-year-old has already appointed stalwarts Silvinho Louro and Rui Faria—both of whom worked with him at Stamford Bridge—giving the Old Trafford backroom staff a particularly Lusophone feel.

Formosinho will surely be tasked with overhauling the Red Devils’ recruitment, which was particularly lacklustre under van Gaal.

Indeed, it’s unlikely the Red Devils will return to their former glory anytime soon if Mourinho’s additions are as successful as the likes of Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Marcos Rojo.
