Tottenham Hotspur to give up on Argentine defender after two seasons

Seven solid seasons for Sevilla made the Tottenham Hotspur signing of centre-back Federico Fazio in 2014 seem like a solid pickup. But after two subpar years for the Spurs and on loan, it looks like Fazio is ready for a move.

According to Spanish publication Sport, Fazio has agreed to terms for a four-year deal with La Liga outfit Espanyol – all that remains is to iron out a transfer fee with Tottenham to complete the deal.

“Espanyol president Chen Yansheng was in London this week, accompanied by CEO Ramon Robert, to talk about the deal,” the report stated.

The Spurs acquired Fazio from Sevilla in 2014, and went on to make 20 Premier League starts in the 2014-15 season along with six starts in the Europa League.

However, he was loaned to Sevilla for the 2015-16 season and made only a handful of appearances for the La Liga giants.

From 2007 to 2014 with Sevilla, Fazio made 148 La Liga appearances and scored 12 goals. He was a part of back-to-back Europe League title winners as well as the 2010 Copa del Ray title winning squads.
