Arsenal growing in confidence they can finally convince Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to commit long-term futures

Arsenal are reportedly edging closer to tying both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez down to new long-term contracts after months of speculation.

Negotiations are said to have begun in May, and with international duty and other factors delaying progress over the summer it naturally led to suggestions that perhaps there was more to the situation which could cause issues over penning new contracts.

However, according to The Mirror, the Gunners are now confident that the pair will commit their futures to the club and new deals could be in place in the coming weeks.

It will be another boost for Arsenal as they made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League with their last-gasp victory over Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday to move up to sixth place in the table.

With new signings Shkodran Mustafi, Granit Xhaka and Lucas Perez bolstering the squad, Arsene Wenger will hope that it’s enough to ensure that they compete on various fronts this season and prove the club’s ambition to be at the top which in turn will help convince Ozil and Sanchez to extend their stay in north London.

The duo are undoubtedly considered two of Arsenal’s best players in the current squad, and so their continued presence in the team will be a major boost for all concerned.

While both will hope to continue to have a growing influence on the side’s success in the season ahead, having their respective contract situations finally sorted out will be a relief for them as they will be able to fully focus on matters on the pitch.
