Man United receive transfer boost as Portugal international delays contract talks

Manchester United have received a boost in their hunt to sign the Portugal international Jose Fonte according to the Mirror

Per-the-source, Southampton are keen to start contract talks with the 32-year-old and are willing to offer a £70,000 per-week bumper deal.

However, the report states that Fonte is in no rush to put pen-to-paper on a new contract.

“There’s nothing on the table, so I’m waiting,” Fonte was quoted as saying by the Mirror.

“I’ll see what happens. I’m just focusing on performing and we’ll see what happens.

“We haven’t agreed anything, it’s just talks.”

The report states that United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to sign his Portuguese compatriot. Fonte played a staring role in Portugal’s Euro 2016 success over the summer, and has appeared in all but one of Southampton’s six Premier League matches this season.

The 32-year-old has just under two years remaining on his current deal with Southampton. The Saints take on H. Be’er Sheva in the Europa League on Thursday before taking on the reigning Premier League champions Leicester City this weekend.

Southampton are currently in ninth place in the Premier League with eight points in six games.
