Jose Mourinho explains furious exchange with Man United coach during Zorya clash

Man United boss Jose Mourinho was left visibly infuriated by coach Giovanni Cerra ahead of the Europa League game with Zorya Luhansk on Thursday, and he’s explained why.

As seen in the video below, Mourinho stormed from the touchline at Old Trafford over to the bench to remonstrate with Cerra over something that was of importance in a folder he was carrying.

Evidently something wasn’t right, and the Portuguese tactician didn’t hold back in letting his assistant know exactly what he thought of his preparation, or lack of.

Assistant Rui Faria was also in the line of fire at one point, and arguably rightly so as Mourinho later explained that their opponents had made changes to their line-up ahead of kick-off and in turn that had left Paul Pogba confused over what his role in the team should be.

“It was, you know, set pieces, organisation,” he told BT Sport. “They changed their team before the game and Paul was a bit confused with the changes and obviously I want my assistants to take care of all the details.”

On one hand you could argue that it’s a public dressing down that will leave his assistant embarrassed and not particularly confident moving forward.

However, it also shows Mourinho’s relentless desire to be as best prepared as possible, and his mood may have improved slightly after his side secured a 1-0 win over their Europa League group rivals.
