Cristiano Ronaldo counters homophobic abuse with goals

Saturday’s Madrid derby didn’t really get that heated, at least considering how nasty games between Atletico and Real can get. Real put the game beyond doubt before things could get desperate in the later stages, and prevented there from being too many fireworks.

Tempers did flare occasionally though, and Atletico’s diminutive midfielder Koke went forehead to forehead with Cristiano Ronaldo at one point with the two clearly trading insults, the former allegedly using a homophobic slur.

The Daily Mirror report that Spanish radio stadion Cadena Ser (one of Spain’s most famous broadcasters) say that Koke called Ronaldo a “f****t” as the two locked horns in the middle of the pitch.

Ronaldo apparently replied “I might be a faggot, but a very rich one. A******e.”

This is a very Cristiano Ronaldo response, in that he somehow comes off badly despite being the one who is receiving abuse.

The Portuguese attacker had the last laugh in the end, scoring a hattrick as his side brushed Los Colchoneros aside.
