Man Utd and Chelsea track teenage gold medalist Thiago Maia as PSG prepare to start the bidding high

Santos wonderkid Thiago Maia is attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

The 19-year-old defensive midfielder, who helped Brazil win Olympic Gold this summer, is being tracked by Manchester United and Chelsea, according to Calciomercato.

However, The Express report that French champions PSG are preparing to start the bidding at £17m, which is twice what fellow Maia-chasers Juventus were planning to offer for the youngster.

Of course, both Chelsea and United have the financial muscle to match PSG’s proposed offer, but it would seem as though the Paris side are looking more likely to sign him at present.

PSG have employed many Brazilian players down the year, including the likes of Nene, Rai, Marcos Ceara, Ricardo and Valdo, while Maxwell, Lucas Moura, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos are all still on the books.

Chelsea also have a strong Brazilian contingent in their current squad, with David Luiz, Oscar and Willian regularly featuring in Antonio Conte’s first team.

Man United don’t have that many Brazilians, but Jose Mourinho being Portuguese and therefore speaking fluently the national language of Brazil could give him an edge in any talks that take place.
