Manchester United team news: Misfit to finally make bench but Mkhitaryan set to be dropped

Manchester United face West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday, and early reports indicate that Jose Mourinho will make changes.

The first bit of team news comes from The Sun’s Neil Custis on Twitter, who claims that Bastian Schweinsteiger could make the United bench against the Hammers.

Having failed to feature at all so far this season after being snubbed by Mourinho since the summer, it will be a major boost for the veteran midfielder to finally be included in a matchday squad.

It comes as a result of the fact that Custis notes Michael Carrick misses out after suffering a “slight strain”, and so the United boss needs cover in midfield.

While a large number of United fans will be delighted to see Schweinsteiger potentially involved, it isn’t all good news as Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be dropped from the line-up.

The Armenian international started against Feyenoord in the Europa League in midweek, and after a slow start he proved his quality and showed what he can bring to the United team as a constant attacking threat.

However, he may not have done enough to warrant a start in the Premier League just yet though, with The Times’ Paul Hirst reporting that the former Borussia Dortmund star may have to settle for a place on the bench once again.

United start the day in sixth place in the Premier League table, and with a six point gap between them and the top four, they will be desperate to claim all three points against Slaven Bilic’s men.
