Arsenal never seem to be on top of their contract situations. Usually it’s players deals running out and the Gunners either having to sell them on the cheap or being held over a barrel to prevent their stars leaving.
This time, their mistakes has been letting their two best – and highest paid – players reach the end of their deals at the same time. Both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are at the end of their deals, and the Sun report that giving both of them the £300k a week deals they want will end up costing the Gunners £156m – a colossal, headline grabbing figure reached by some generous maths on the part of the reporters.
Even more astonishing are the theories about what might happen should the Gunners not stump up the cash for their crown jewels, with the Sun also suggesting Chelsea apparently keen to sign Alexis Sanchez from under their rivals noses in what would be the most sensational Premier League transfer in years were it to take place.
