Former Chelsea centre-back and Premier League champion announces his retirement from football due to injury

Brazilian centre-back Alex has announced his retirement from football, according to former Sky Sports correspondent Paulo Freitas.

Paulo Freitas reports that Alex, who was without a club after being released by AC Milan earlier this year, was unable to find a new club due to injury issues and subsequently called time on his playing career.

What an illustrious career it was too. Alex is perhaps best known for his five-year stint at Chelsea. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he made 134 appearances and scored 11 goals. He was part of Carlo Ancelotti’s title-winning squad in 2009/10 and also lifted two FA Cups and the Community shield.

After a successful five years in England, he moved on to French giants PSG. He spent three years in Paris and won two league titles. He also played for Santos, PSV and Milan, as well as making 15 appearances for the Brazilian national team. We wish him all the best in his retirement!
