Former Arsenal and Crystal Palace striker Marouane Chamakh is close to joining Serie B relegation battlers Vicenza Calcio, according to Di Marzio.
Chamakh is a familiar face on these shores, having represented three Premier League clubs. He started at Arsenal, where he made 40 appearances in England’s top tier, finding the back of the net on eight occasions.
After a brief stint on loan at West Ham, where he played just three times, the Moroccan moved on to Crystal Palace. Chamakh spent three years at Palace, appearing 60 times in the Premier League, but only scoring seven times.
He has most recently played for Cardiff City, where he was released after who appearances as a substitute. Chamakh could be set to be offered a lifeline by Vicenza.
Di Marzio reports that Chamakh is close to joining the side who currently sit in 18th place in Serie B. The Sky Italia reporter believes that the 33-year-old has looked around the club’s facilities, and a deal could be completed very soon.
Oftentimes I could finish this article simply by writing ‘how the mighty have fallen’. In Chamakh’s case, however, it’s more a case of the rubbish finding it’s way into the bin.
