United set to make move for former Premier League-winning goalkeeper

Manchester United look set to move for Leicester star Kasper Schmeichel, should the Foxes be successful in their pursuit of Gent goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic, reports the Express.

Schmeichel, as reported by the Express, has been strongly linked with a move to United, as Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho looks to find a potential replacement for Spaniard David De Gea.

The move for Schmeichel, according to the Express, will only go ahead should current United star De Gea move to La Liga giants Real Madrid, with the Foxes replacing the Denmark international with 6 ft 7 Croatian shot-stopper Lovre Kalinic.

If Leicester do get the deal for Kalinic, which was also reported by the Sun, over the line, it could cost the former Premier League champions as much as £22M, which would then allow Schmiechel, who kept nine clean sheets in the league last season, to follow his dad’s footsteps and move to Old Trafford.

If Jose Mourinho’s side do manage to secure a deal for Schmeichel, it’s definitely going to interesting to see if he could fill the boots of current United first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea.
