Chelsea lead race to sign incredible 89-goal, 14-year-old wonderkid

Chelsea are reportedly leading the race to land a highly-rated teenage starlet with an incredible goalscoring record in Caen youngster Elye Wahi.

The 14-year-old scored 89 goals last season for the French side’s youth teams, and in turn is unsurprisingly being watched carefully by a number of big clubs.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are in pole position to snap up the youngster with a number of rivals including Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester United and Manchester City all interested.

They’ve run with a story from Le Parisien which draws comparisons between Wahi and Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante, given their similar background story and the fact that they both come from the same Paris suburb.

Wahi signed a deal with Caen in 2016 after he scored almost 90 goals for the Under-14s and Under-15s sides, while his father is now helping his development to take his career to the next level and the early signs are certainly promising.

However, this is where it gets tricky. Given his improvement at Caen and with so much time on his hands to grow, mature and develop, does he want to take a risk and move to England too soon?

He’ll seemingly get regular playing time through the various youth levels up to the senior side when he’s ready at Caen, but that isn’t guaranteed at one of the big clubs in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen whether or not Chelsea can reach an agreement with the French outfit and convince Wahi that moving to Stamford Bridge is the right move for him at this stage in his career. However, the report seemingly suggests that they are favourites to do so above some direct rivals for now.
