(Video) Jose Mourinho’s Man Utd style of play sparks heated debate after Tottenham win

After the goalless draw at Anfield and the slender win over Tottenham this weekend, question marks have been raised over the style of play that Jose Mourinho has implemented at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils collected four points from those two difficult games, and while it wasn’t enough to leave all Man Utd fans happy, this supporter was entirely content with what he saw as he phoned up BBC 606 on Saturday.

Presenter Jason Mohammad was involved in the back and forth as he had earlier insisted that the encounter between United and Spurs was a ‘dull affair’ especially given that it was built up as a highly-anticipated Premier League game with both sides possessing plenty of attacking quality.

However, this United fan was having none of it as he insisted that the defensive-minded approach isn’t boring, it’s just a sensible style of management with entertainment value in its own right which has been successful for Mourinho for many years.

Further, he was adamant that he enjoyed the tactical battles and referenced Serie A as being a fascinating league given the work that goes into getting things organised defensively.

For the neutral, it has to be said that the clash between Liverpool and Man Utd a fortnight ago was a nightmare with no real quality or attacking impetus and a distinct defensive-minded approach from the latter which really did spoil it as a spectacle.

Nevertheless, that’s where this fan makes a valid point. All-out attack and porous defences aren’t always the universally accepted idea of an entertaining game, but ultimately all this is likely to mean little to Mourinho so long as his team is meeting their objectives and they’ll play any way he sees fit to make it happen.
