Arsenal transfer news: Mesut Ozil ready to snub Manchester United & sign new contract if key demand is met

Could be a huge transfer boost for Arsenal!

There hasn’t been much Arsenal transfer news for Gunners fans to smile about lately, but Mesut Ozil may just have handed them a major contract lifeline.

Despite the Daily Mirror recently reporting that Ozil had told team-mates he was confident he’d be leaving for Manchester United, it looks like it might not take that much for Arsenal to keep hold of him.

The Germany international is heading towards the end of his current contract and could be a free agent in the summer, but simply handing him Jack Wilshere’s number 10 shirt could be enough to persuade him to pen a new deal, according to the Sun.

Ozil wears his preferred number for his national team and even includes it in his Instagram handle, but has had to make do with wearing 11 since his move from Real Madrid back in 2013.

Still, with Wilshere also set to be out of contract at the end of the season, the legendary 10 shirt could become available, and the Sun claim Ozil is eager to be given his favoured shirt.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal fans will be particularly overjoyed by this news, with Ozil often proving a divisive character during his time at the Emirates Stadium.

Many will have been surprised to see him linked with United after seemingly struggling to cope with the physical aspects of the English game and hardly impressing in the biggest matches in much of his Gunners career.

Still, Arsenal cannot afford to lose two big names like Ozil and fellow contract rebel Alexis Sanchez in one go, with the Daily Mirror also recently reporting that Manchester City would swoop for the latter when he becomes available on a free in the summer.
