Arsenal transfer news: Manchester United boosted by major development in Mesut Ozil saga

Arsenal have reportedly backtracked on keeping Mesut Ozil as it is now claimed they’ll sell him to Manchester United or other interested clubs in the January transfer window if they receive a bid of £30million.

The Germany international is set to be out of contract at the end of the season, and it seems there’s still no progress on him extending his stay with the Gunners.

The Daily Mail recently claimed Arsenal could try to frustrate United by selling Ozil to another European club this winter, but latest reports suggest otherwise.

According to the Daily Star, Arsene Wenger is now happy to cash in on Ozil for the tune of around £30m to avoid losing him on a free next summer as that seemingly becomes an ever more realistic possibility.

This looks like good news for United, with the Daily Star claiming Jose Mourinho is keen to bring in Ozil this season as he could take advantage of his lack of Champions League football by adding him to his squad for Europe in the second half of the season.

Mesut Ozil – just the transfer Jose Mourinho needs?

While Ozil has had his critics during his time at the Emirates Stadium, he could be exactly what United need right now if he regains his best form under his old manager.

The 29-year-old shone under Mourinho at Real Madrid earlier in his career, and has the ability to open up defences with his creativity and passing that perhaps some of this Red Devils squad lack.

The Daily Express have also linked Juan Mata with a move to Madrid in January as he nears the end of his contract, meaning Ozil could be being targeted as a like-for-like replacement.

United have also had to cope without Paul Pogba for large chunks of this campaign, starving Romelu Lukaku of the kind of service he enjoyed earlier in the year when he couldn’t stop scoring.

However, the Belgian is now seven games without a goal for United, and Ozil could be just the man to help him start finding the back of the net again.
