Liverpool may have been dealt a transfer blow regarding James Rodriguez after the Bayern Munich attacking midfielder spoke with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez on the phone this week.
According to Don Balon, Perez is keen to have Rodriguez back at the Bernabeu after seemingly regretting a summer in which he allowed him to go out on loan to Bayern whilst also selling Alvaro Morata and Mariano Diaz.
Rodriguez struggled under Zinedine Zidane at Real, but has improved a great deal at the Allianz Arena this season and looks a player who could offer something to Madrid once again.
Liverpool have also been in touch about signing the Colombia international recently, so claimed Don Balon, but it now looks as though he could have some motivation to give Real another chance.
Rodriguez isn’t keen to be reunited with manager Zidane, but Don Balon suggest that the Frenchman is unlikely to still be in charge by that point – a scenario in which he would be willing to return.
Results have been significantly worse for Zidane this season after a superb first year and a half in charge, during which he won La Liga and two Champions League titles.
Still, it could now be a big summer of change as Real look in need of a revamp, with another report emerging from Don Balon that Antonio Conte of Chelsea is a candidate to become the club’s manager and that he’s already eyeing up a raid on the Blues if he does move.
