Manchester United have been dealt a transfer snub by Gareth Bale as the Real Madrid winger would prefer to return to his old club Tottenham instead.
Don Balon report that Real Madrid had looked to include Bale in a swap deal for United striker Romelu Lukaku, but the Wales international isn’t keen on the potential move to Old Trafford.
While this is something of a blow to United, it could also be seen as good news as it means keeping hold of Lukaku – a player the Red Devils would surely have little desire to sell after his fine form for Belgium at the World Cup this summer.
The 25-year-old would no doubt be an ideal signing for Los Blancos as they look in need of an upgrade on Karim Benzema up front next season.
The Frenchman’s form dipped considerably last term as he managed just five La Liga goals in 32 games, while Lukaku hit 16 in 34 in the Premier League for United.
