Man United and Serbia star Nemanja Matic is reportedly a ‘major doubt’ for the Red Devils’ pre-season match against Liverpool, with the star picking up an injury just a few weeks before the start of the new Premier League season.
This is according to the Mirror, who note that the former Chelsea man was confirmed to have collected an injury by the club, and that only time will tell how long the midfielder is set to be out for.
The report also states that he may very well not be able to line-up against the Reds this week, something that won’t be music to the ears of United’s fans.
With the new Premier League season set to get underway in just a few weeks time, this news will certainly not be welcomed by Red Devils supporters.
The Serbian international was a key member of the United side that managed their best ever points haul in the league since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.
The 29-year-old’s defensive responsibilities was one of the reasons as to why stars like Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba were able to shine last season.
Having managed him at Chelsea, Mourinho will know how big of a blow this would be for United if Matic doesn’t make the game against Liverpool.
Here’s hoping the injury isn’t too serious, and that Matic and get himself fit in time for the new season, for United’s sake.
