Jose Mourinho ‘furious’ with Manchester United transfer target’s agent over failed deadline day move

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly furious with the agent of Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin as a deadline day swoop for the player failed.

The transfer deadline has now passed and United have failed to bring in any new names to build on their early summer business for Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant.

This looks somewhat risky from United, who finished a whopping 19 points behind Manchester City last season and finished the campaign empty-handed, losing the FA Cup final to Chelsea and failing to get past the last 16 in the Champions League with a surprise defeat to Sevilla.

Godin could have been a useful signing for this Red Devils squad, but the Sun note how the deal broke down, with Mourinho described as being ‘furious’ with the Uruguayan’s agent.

The Sun says Godin’s agent approached United with the suggestion that his client was keen on a move to Old Trafford, but Mourinho believes this was just a ploy to land the player a new and improved contract with his current club.

United won’t be happy at being played like this, with the saga likely costing the club valuable hours in terms of pursuing other potential additions in that area.
