Real Madrid still face concern over losing influential ace as deadline looms

Inter are reportedly refusing to give up on Real Madrid star Luka Modric with the transfer deadline in Italy fast approaching on Friday.

The 32-year-old midfield maestro has been a fundamental figure for Los Blancos in their recent success as after overcoming a difficult start, he has been influential in their trophy haul over the past three years in particular.

With that in mind, coupled with the fact that the reigning European champions have already lost Cristiano Ronaldo this summer and have opted not to replace him with a marquee signing, the last thing that club president Florentino Perez and coach Julen Lopetegui want is to see another talisman leave.

However, according to AS, it’s claimed that Inter remain at the door until Friday’s transfer deadline in Italy, hoping that Modric will convince Real Madrid to let him leave as he reportedly wants the move to the Nerazzurri to embark on a new challenge.

Importantly though, it’s added that the classy midfielder won’t force a move through, and so it remains to be seen whether or not Perez and Lopetegui can be convinced to let him go with the window in Spain still open until August 31, giving them time to identify and secure a replacement.

Nevertheless, losing Modric must surely be their worst case scenario given his importance to the team, and his popularity with the supporters was never more evident when he received a raucous reception after coming on against AC Milan in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, as seen in the video below.

In turn, it’s difficult to see a move going through despite Inter boss Luciano Spalletti preparing his side for a return to the Champions League this season. However, based on the report above, it’s suggested that Inter will not give up trying until it is officially too late to make a move happen this summer.
