Crucial meeting in next 24 hours over future of Real Madrid star as Euro giants poised for last attempt

Real Madrid will reportedly face ongoing pressure to keep hold of Luka Modric this week as Inter remain keen on the midfield maestro.

The 32-year-old has been a fundamental part of the club’s recent success, as after overcoming a difficult start at the Bernabeu, he has established himself as a permanent fixture in the side.

Alongside the likes of Toni Kroos and Casemiro, he has been key in dominating games and dictating the tempo in midfield, and particularly with the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo already this summer in mind, the last thing that the reigning European champions want is to lose another talisman.

However, according to Calciomercato, via the paper edition of Mundo Deportivo, the threat of that happening still looms large as they claim not only will Modric’s agent have a meeting with Real Madrid on Thursday to try and convince them to let him leave, but Inter are said to be ready to launch a final bid to prise him away from the Spanish capital.

It remains to be seen if Madrid’s resolve can be broken and if club president Florentino Perez will give in and allow Modric to leave, but as noted above, his importance to the team would surely mean that they will not green light a move unless absolutely necessary.

Modric returned late for pre-season after his World Cup exploits this summer, emerging as the player of the tournament in Russia after guiding Croatia to the final against France.

If his reception from the Real Madrid supporters on Saturday when he came off the bench in the friendly against AC Milan was anything to go by, as seen in the video below, it will undoubtedly be a very unpopular decision to let him leave before the transfer deadline in Italy passes on Friday night.
