The star who’s set to replace Cristiano Ronaldo as Real Madrid’s ‘number 7’ next season

With Cristiano Ronaldo having left Real Madrid this summer in favour of a move to Italian giants Juventus, Los Blancos’ fabled ‘number 7’ shirt is yet to be appointed to a player for this season.

But, if this report from Diario Gol is anything to go by, it doesn’t look like things are going to stay that way for very long.

As per Diario Gol, Brazilian starlet Rodrygo is going to be the player who is handed Ronaldo’s old shirt number at the Santiago Bernabeu for next season.

Rodrygo looks set to take over Ronaldo’s old shirt number at Real next year

According to the same report from Diario Gol, Real agreed a €45M deal for Rodrygo this summer, and that he’s to spend this season with Santos before officially moving to the Spanish giants next summer.

It’ll be interesting to see how Real fans react to this news, as putting such a weight and expectation on the shoulders of a 17-year-old like Rodrygo surely won’t be good for the pressure the player is set to face.

A lot will be expected of Rodrygo following the completion of his move next year, and having Ronaldo’s old No.7 shirt on his back probably won’t do the youngster any favours.

Ronaldo is arguably Real, and football’s, greatest player of all time, and it looks like the club are going to be trusting Rodrygo to fill the void left by the Portuguese sensation in the long run.

All we can say is: good luck to the kid, because he’s certainly going to need it!
