£131m duo to Man Utd, £70m forward to Liverpool: Predicting how the top 16 transfer sagas of the summer will pan out

With the transfer rumours coming thick and fast now, it can be hard to make sense of all the speculation and work out how everything’s actually likely to pan out.

Below, we’ve gone through 16 of this summer’s biggest transfer stories and attempted to predict where the big names might really end up by the end of it all.

Read on to find the players linked with your club and see if you agree with our predictions…

Joao Felix

Joao Felix to Manchester City transfer seems most likely to us

One of the names on everyone’s lips at the moment is Benfica sensation Joao Felix, who has enjoyed a stunning breakthrough season to establish himself as one of the world’s most exciting young talents.

Linked with all the usual suspects, it remains to be seen where Felix will end up, but we have a sneaking feeling that Manchester City makes the most sense.

The Sun recently claimed the Premier League champions had leapfrogged their rivals in the running, and Pep Guardiola has a history of splashing out on the world’s best young players.

One of those previous signings of his, Leroy Sane, could also be on the move as the Guardian link him with Bayern Munich, so Felix makes sense as a replacement in attack.

Bruno Fernandes

One of the most exciting midfielders in Europe at the moment, Bruno Fernandes finished 2018/19 with 28 goals and 14 assists in all competitions. This has unsurprisingly led to plenty of reported interest, but we expect Manchester United may be the front-runners here.

Journalist Pietro Balzano Prota claims on Twitter that an agreement is close, with United and Sporting Lisbon finalising the details of the deal.

It’s previously been claimed by O Jogo, as translated by the Metro, that Fernandes would likely cost around £71m – a potential bargain for the Red Devils if they can get this done.

Matthijs de Ligt

Another of the world’s most in-demand young players, Matthijs de Ligt’s future still feels very much up in the air.

However, this tweet below from the well-connected Gerard Romero has at least narrowed things down a little bit…

It’s a pure guess, but Barcelona makes sense as the best move for the young Dutchman to make next, given the connection between the two clubs and the playing style making it a natural fit.

De Ligt seems like a character who relishes competition and would not just be content to pick up his pay packet whilst strolling to easy title wins with the likes of PSG and Juventus.

Kalidou Koulibaly

There’s been a surprising lack of movement on Kalidou Koulibaly, and at this point we’re predicting he’s going to be staying put for another season.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli want €150m for him, and that’s surely just too much for even the richest clubs to pay for a centre-back.

Koulibaly is one of the best in the world in his position, but there are sure to be other decent options out there available for a lot less, so we can’t see the Senegal international going anywhere for the time being.

Kalidou Koulibaly continues to attract transfer speculation

Harry Maguire

A player linked a great deal with a big move this summer and last, could it finally be time for the excellent Harry Maguire to leave Leicester City for a big six team?

The latest from the Mail is that the England international himself would favour Manchester City over other offers, and this sounds just about right to us.

Maguire would be an ideal replacement for the departing Vincent Kompany, and if City are after him, it’s hard to see why he’d pick anyone else.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

A player repeatedly linked with Man Utd, it’s hard to see this one panning out any other way, even if Crystal Palace are holding firm on their exciting young full-back.

Sky Sports report that MUFC have had a £40m bid rejected for the 21-year-old, but £60m would probably do it, and that shouldn’t be out of the club’s financial reach.

Christian Eriksen

He’s got just a year left on his contract, he’s hinted strongly at wanting a move away (via Ekstra Bladet) and he’s a player capable of representing any top team in Europe.

In short, we’re pretty confident Christian Eriksen will be on his way out of Tottenham this summer, with Real Madrid perhaps the most likely destination if AS is to be believed, with club president Florentino Perez favouring the Dane over Paul Pogba.

Eriksen is arguably the better player and would also surely be cheaper, so get ready for him to follow Eden Hazard to the Bernabeu as part of this continued revamp in attack.

Christian Eriksen could finally leave Tottenham

James Maddison

An ideal replacement for Eriksen, we reckon James Maddison could leave Leicester City for Spurs this summer.

The Mirror have linked the 22-year-old with the north London side, while the Daily Record claim he’s unconvinced by a potential move to Manchester United as an alternative.

Maddison could play Champions League football with this year’s beaten finalists if he moves to Tottenham, and he’d surely get that immediate guaranteed key role in the side as Eriksen surely leaves. Win-win.

Nicolas Pepe

Mohamed Bouhafsi is a very reliable transfer source and he claims Liverpool are well-placed to win the race for Nicolas Pepe.

The Lille winger is surely going to be snapped up by someone this summer, and we think a move to Anfield makes sense as the newly-crowned European champions surely have at least one marquee signing up their sleeves this summer.

Pepe could be crucial to providing Liverpool with more options behind their first choice front three, with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino occasionally going off the boil in 2018/19.

While the Reds have been one of the most fearsome attacks in the world for some time now, Jurgen Klopp could do with making sure they don’t become predictable, so Pepe makes sense as an ideal signing, with the Mirror previously stating he’d likely cost around £70m.

Adrien Rabiot

It’s long been widely known that Adrien Rabiot is a Liverpool fan, and the Daily Mail have recently reported that the free agent would rather move to Anfield than to Old Trafford.

There’s yet to be concrete reports of interest from LFC, but it’s also unclear how much movement there’s been with any other of his numerous rumoured options.

A free transfer to give Jurgen Klopp something a bit different in midfield? It sounds very Liverpool, so we’re going to bet that this one could end up being one of those out-of-nowhere deals, quite like Fabinho when he joined the Reds last summer.

Adrien Rabiot is a free agent this summer

Thomas Meunier

Linked repeatedly with Arsenal, it seems highly likely that this move will eventually happen.

Tuttomercatoweb are the latest to claim the Gunners have made a bid for the Belgium international, who could do with more first-team football after falling down the pecking order at PSG.

Meunier should get more playing time at the Emirates Stadium, where Unai Emery needs to replace the departing Stephan Lichtsteiner, while Hector Bellerin has had his problems with injury and Ainsley Maitland-Niles has probably not been quite good enough filling in in that position.

Antoine Griezmann

For so long expected to join Barcelona, the latest from Sport is that Antoine Griezmann has agreed on a transfer to PSG, so that’s what we’re going with.

This is a reliable source and the France international makes sense as an upgrade on Edinson Cavani up front, giving the Ligue 1 giants a potential front three that could genuinely win the Champions League at last.

Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba has not been at his best for Manchester United but we think he’ll stay another year

If you ask us, Paul Pogba is another who’ll be staying put this summer, as the timing just doesn’t seem quite right for a move.

AS have reported that Zinedine Zidane wants him at Real Madrid, but as already noted, Florentino Perez prefers Eriksen, and that could be crucial.

Man Utd would surely also not let Pogba go for anything other than silly money, and could ultimately do without more drama as they have enough strengthening to do already without needing to replace one of their biggest names.

David de Gea

This is perhaps one of the toughest ones to call for a variety of reasons.

David de Gea has been linked by the Sun with a possible move to PSG, and it makes perfect sense for the Red Devils to perhaps cash in on him now after a dip in form last season and with the very real risk of losing him on a free transfer in a year’s time.

However, the fallout from letting such a previously world class performer go as soon as he hits a rough patch could be dire, with fans likely to be unhappy and with a top class replacement likely to be very hard to find.

For this reason, we think De Gea may well stay where he is for now, though who knows if that will lead to him signing a new contract or not…

Neymar

In a shock report recently, Gerard Romero claimed Barcelona were trying to re-sign Neymar in a swap deal:

This hasn’t really developed since then, however, and we just can’t see PSG parting company with their Brazilian superstar this soon after signing him.

Neymar also seems likely to be unaffordable for most clubs, so we imagine he’ll most likely stay for at least another season.

Paulo Dybala

Paulo Dybala to Bayern Munich transfer makes a lot of sense

Corriere dello Sport claim Bayern Munich have made a bid for him, and despite all the long-running links with Premier League clubs, we think this is a far more likely destination for Paulo Dybala.

The Argentina international is badly needed at Bayern after the departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, and seems a fine fit for the Bavarian giants.

After falling down the pecking order at Juventus, Dybala could get the chance to be the main man again with Bayern.
