Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano reveals Chelsea transfer targets under Pochettino and plans for Mount talks

Chelsea are getting closer to appointing Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager, and Fabrizio Romano has revealed what the club could do in the transfer market once the Argentine takes over.

Writing in his exclusive CaughtOffside column, Romano explained that the Blues want a new striker and a new ‘number 6’, while Mason Mount’s future is also on the agenda to be discussed soon.

Chelsea have endured a hugely challenging season under their new owners, with a string of managerial changes and poorly-thought-out signings seeming to unsettle the whole squad.

Pochettino looks a fine choice to come in as manager, though, and Chelsea fans will hope this saga can be resolved soon so plans can start for rebuilding the team in the summer.

A new striker certainly seems like a must for CFC, while fans will also surely be hoping for a positive outcome from talks over Mount’s future.

“I can’t predict the timing on the Mauricio Pochettino deal being finalised, this depends on Chelsea, but it’s really close now,” Romano said.

“The conversation is progressing very well and it’s at final stages, so really close.

“For targets, it’s still early to mention names but for sure Chelsea will go for new number 6, new striker and the rest will be discussed in the next weeks, including Mason Mount situation.”

Fellow CaughtOffside columnist Ben Jacobs also provided some insight on Pochettino’s arrival and why Julian Nagelsmann pulled out of the race.
